Adul Chueajit – Master ceramic artisan of Ban Dong Luang, Wiang Nong Long District, Lamphun Province.
The ceramic figurines of Lamphun have been passed down for more than 1,300 years, taking the form of distinctive “tribal dolls” that portray ways of life, cultural identity, traditional dress, and expressive postures with unmistakable character. Lamphun, though a small city, is home to many hidden masters of craftsmanship. One of them is Adul Chueajit, a revered clay artisan who conveys the spirit of Lanna life through his uniquely crafted earthen figurines.
The Ban Dong Luang clay dolls are made using local clay and traditional methods, including coating the surface with an ancient glaze formula and firing at 1,250 degrees Celsius. A defining feature of every “Pan Sa Pa” figurine is its gently tilted head and softly closed eyes, forming a serene smile that reflects the Lanna people’s gracious manners, humility, and quiet calm.
